ANNUAL BAY-NET MEETING AND TRAINING SESSION - MONDAY DECEMBER 27 - 2 TO 5 PM
We will have our 2nd annual Bay-Net repeater system training session on Monday December 27, 2010
from 2-5 PM at the San Jose offices of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Last year we had a great turnout and hope to do the same this year.
We will do a slide show overview of the Bay-Net system, control system training, intro to using the new
D-Star repeater and using the IRLP/echolink VOIP services. We will also provide a brief intro to the
Cactus Intertie, the worlds largest linked amateur radio repeater system and a co-sponsor of Bay-Net
plus some special guest presentations...
Bay-Net system overview and training - George KJ6VU (90 min)
Intro do D-Star and using our repeater - Rich KC6OBJ (30 min)
Red Cross support during the San Bruno fire - Rob N2RAG (30 min)
Project Show-'N-Tell - Moderated by George KJ6VU (30 min)
This year we installed a new D-Star digital repeater on the system. Rich KC6OBJ will present
an introduction to D-Star and explain how to set up and use a D-Star radio. Rich is the owner
of a new D-Star repeater he built and installed up at Lake Oroville, Ca.
Rob Goodson, N2RAG, of the American Red Cross will present “The First 40 Minutes”
This presentation describes the American Red Cross communications response to the tragic
San Bruno fire. The Bay-Net system was the main communications link between the Red Cross
offices, San Bruno EOC, ICP and evacuation centers. Rob will share lessons learned
from this event.
The show-n-tell is an opportunity for anyone to bring something of interest to share with the
attendees. Portable stations, go kits, antennas (small), or just about any radio project that
you would like to show off. We will provide a table to set up your baby and a few minutes to
explain what it is. You are welcome to send a few powerpoint slides in advance if you like.
Feel free to pass this message to anyone you think would be interested. Bay-Net is an open system and the meeting is open to all interested radio amateurs.
The location is...
American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter at 2731 North First Street, San Jose, CA 95134.
Thanks to George N6NKT for making the facility available for our use.
There are always people who can't make the date or time we pick. For those of you who can't
make it I would be happy to present the system overview and training portion at a date and time
that makes more sense for you. Maybe we can schedule something at another Red Cross office
in January or February for the shorter follow up version.
'73 and see you there.
